Just before writing this, I was:

Waking up!

This past month, I achieved:

  • 🎵 Saw Jeff Rosenstock live
  • 🎄 Survived three work Christmas parties in 4 days
  • 🤓 Started learning Typescript
  • 📕 Read “Has The West Lost It?”
  • 📚 Started reading “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying”
  • ✅ Resisted impulse-buying things I didn’t want during the Boxing Day sales
  • Slowed down a lot compared to what I was like this time last year

This past month, I learned:

My changing mood and the power of holding on in the face of painful emotions. It was a year ago this month that I had my first panic attack in half a decade, and it was truly a scary occasion. It was interesting comparing how I felt this year compared to the same time last year. I feel a lot more stable and able to handle the waves.

This is deliberately underplaying it, though. There was a lot of work that went into my recovery, including sessions with Headspace, and a pretty much complete change of my routine. It is possible, but hard, to recover without these tools.

This past month, I got bored of:

New Years resolutions. I dryly asked a lot of people what their resolutions were this month. It’s funny that we reserve one month every year to decide how we want to spend the subsequent year.

Realistically, if you’re setting goals once a year, it is nowhere near enough.

I’m moving to more of an experimental framework in discovery of my goals. By setting short sprints and being able to fail fast if I don’t find a particular habit is working, I won’t have to beat myself up when these goals fail, because failure is almost guaranteed and that’s okay.

But that’s OK, because I enjoyed:

Even more tea than ever before! This year, my boyfriend bought a tea advent calendar, which meant that for every day between Dec 1 and Christmas eve, we got to try a different tea. Whilst excessive, it was a really fun way to count down and experiment with teas.

Today, something that made me happy was:

Waking up with Lady Grey tea and a fruit mince pie 😃

Today, something I could’ve done better was:

Gotten to sleep a bit earlier…blech.

Tomorrow I’m going to:

Bash out some Python code that will vaguely be able to answer some questions for a user.

In January, I’m looking forward to:

  • 🙌 Summer reading
  • Planning out my goals for the next year
  • BEACHES
  • Going to see Florence + The Machine

In January, I’m going to make the positive change of:

Going to the beach three (3) times!

Last January I barely went to the beach, which is no surprise since I now live in an area where going to the beach requires making substantial effort 😒. Want to get that number up a bit!

One thing on my to-do list is:

Finish my NCSS bot that gets a random book from my Goodreads shelf that is in stock at my local library.

One happy photo from the past month is:

After this post, I’m going to:

Go for a bike ride!
